I decided to purchase a 3 month nutrition package from Katie after she came highly recommended to me from a couple of my teammates on my triathalon team. I have been into fitness for years and have been working with a triathlalon/running coach for a year now. I have seen incredible improvement in my performance working with my triathalon coach, but have continued to struggle with finding the balance of training fuel for performance, race weight and lifestyle balance. I have really enjoyed working with Katie! She has opened my eyes to fueling our training properly, and has helped me not be afraid to fuel my body properly. She listens to my struggles, and she adjusts my plan according to my workouts and my family. Every single recipe has been delicious and has gotten my kids to try new foods! My absolute favorite part of working with her is that it completely takes the stress away from meal planning and eating. She sends me a detailed plan weekly with a grocery list and recipes. It is GOLD. I also have no more guilt surrounding food because Katie will tell me it is okay/not okay and then I don't worry. Since working with Katie I was able to PR my marathon by 38 minutes! WIth Katie's help I was able to properly fuel my body the weeks leading up to the race, as well as during the race without any GI distress. She also really helped me dial in hydration needs.

I am not doing working with Katie yet and am very happy that I added her to my training. I look forward to what else we can do together to help me reach my happy weight, as well as have a great next race season. I have also gained a friend which has been an added bonus.  Mandy Leonards, triathlete, runner, busy mom of 2.

I heard about OWN-Nutrition through my coach, who was a client of Katie's.  I knew that my training was going well, but I needed to dial in the nutrition in order to lose some weight, which would not only help me improve my overall health and wellbeing, but would also allow me to feel better during workouts and races, as well as improve my times.
I started working with Emily towards the end of August 2017.  Within the first couple weeks, I could feel my energy level increasing and I was definitely losing some weight and inches.  The weekly meal plan is very easy to follow - and the recipes are not only easy, but they are so good!  I never really felt hungry and I was eating five times a day.  Also, the weekly check-ins and being able to reach out to Emily with any questions during the week is very helpful, especially since I travel frequently for work.  In just six weeks' time, I had lost 17 pounds and numerous inches.  This method works!!!

I ran my third Marine Corps Marathon 10K in October 2017 and I achieved a 10 minute personal record!  I know that my nutrition had as much to do with that as my training did.  I am truly grateful to be working with OWN-Nutrition again for my 2018 race season.

I started working with Katie in preparation for my race at the upcoming Ironman World Championships.  I've been training and racing in endurance sports for over 7 years and tried several diets or ways of eating that I thought would work.  Just 2 weeks into the diet that Katie put me on I felt a difference in my body that I have never had before.  Some issues that I had due to training and wear and tear on my body were really related to my daily intake of foods. I no longer have the constant inflammation and bloating that had been weighing me down.  With that gone, my running pace has gone down too, and I am no longer slugging through my workouts.  My running and cycling form is better now with the loss of a few pounds and some minor pains have gone away because I'm practicing with better form.  Going into my second month of working with her, my diet is very dialed into my body and I'm finally eating the right foods specific to what my body needs to train for Ironman. The ease of the meal planning, recipes, and grocery list has also cut my grocery cost and I no longer spend time thinking about what to eat as a hungry athlete at the end of a day's work. Looking forward to working with her for a while!

I discovered Katie Rhodes and OWN-Nutrition through my USAT Coaching newsletter. It can be difficult to manage your own training goals while working full-time and running a part-time coaching business as a USAT certified coach. After knee surgeries for the past 2 successive years  and turning 50, my training goals included improving my body composition to be nicer to my body. Katie to the rescue! Her knowledge and skill in dialing in the right recipe for endurance athletes is paramount. Within the first month of following the plan I saw results not only in my body but also with my energy level and quality of my training sessions.
Katie expertly guided my daily, training and racing nutrition for the months leading up to my ‘A' race of Ironman Florida.  As a result, I improved my time from the previous year by 1.5 hours…. yes HOURS!!
If you are looking for an easy to follow nutrition plan, look no further. The bonus prize is the personal relationship you build along the way.  I pride myself on creating a family feeling with my athletes and found exactly that with OWN-nutrition. I will recommend all of my athletes to add Katie to the comprehensive training plan!

My time with Katie Rhodes of OWN Nutrition has been stellar. I am a very difficult person to deal with when it comes to food, food issues and fueling. For the first time in my life, I completely surrendered those feelings to someone else so I could put my energy where it belonged!
I did my shopping on the weekend for the week ahead with my shopping list and meal plan for the week. It took a little bit of tweaking in the beginning to get my kcals right but seemed to be on an upward trend. I have never eaten so much good fat. Fat makes you strong! Strong girls are in!
She does weekly consultations with you and will answer any question or email promptly. The only flaw is she doesn't live near me as I think we would be close friends :)
Thank you Katie for helping me build a better relationship with food, using food as performance and health and making me happy!
But sorry, our time is not up!

I had hit that stage in life where exercise alone would not keep the weight off.  I didn’t want a diet but rather wanted to change the way I eat to support the way I wanted to live and what I wanted to do athletically.
A little back story...In 2004 I found myself weighing 272 pounds.  Many factors in my life led me to a place of change – it wasn’t about body image but a deep desire to experience my body as God’s gift to me.  I rediscovered my bike, 2 months later started to run (in the dark so no one could see the pathetic-ness). I went to the track and jogged half a lap, walked half a lap.  I started jogging because I wanted to do something that I could do outside all winter in Wisconsin – well, most of the winter.  Then I wanted a goal to keep myself motivated. Triathlon became the goal, sooooo…at age 39 I learned how to swim and did my first sprint triathlon.  I was hooked!  In 2006 I did Ironman Wisconsin, tipping the scales at 202 lbs!
I love Ironman and PR’d in Florida with a 12:08.  Over these last few years the weight has creeped up and I was regularly showing up at Ironman between 215 to 220 pounds.  Exercise along with modest eating wasn’t getting it done anymore.  I was working with Angie Smith as my coach and experienced great improvement in all three disciplines.  To really make the improvement that I wanted I needed to get a handle on my weight.  Angie recommend working with Katie.
I started with Katie 3 months out from Ironman Maryland.  When we started, I was 219. On race morning I was 197 – I had not seen that morning weight in at least 25 years!  I was disappointed that the swim had to be canceled at IM Maryland and the bike had to be shortened by 12 miles.  Some of the streets were flooded and we ended up running through 6 to 12 inches of water 18 times and a mud section 6 times on the on the marathon. This re-aggravated my shin splints, so I didn’t end up with a very good gauge of my overall performance.   I’d never run that well off the bike as I did at IM Maryland but a mile 15 I yielded to the shin splints and was reduced to the dreaded Ironman walk.
I went into the race excited – at my last few Ironman competitions I had some foreboding because I was too heavy. I knew the toll the run would take on me because of the extra 20 pounds.
One other item of note was that IM Maryland  I nailed my nutrition plan!
My take-aways from working with Katie:
  • I learned if feels great to be below 200 lbs
  • I learned that I need to spend time in planning, shopping, prepping and cooking to eat well – It really is another discipline along with swimming, biking and running.
  • I learned how to fuel my body properly
  • I learned I didn't have to starve to reach my weight goal
  • I’m excited to “go it on my own” knowing that OWN will be able to help me get back on the right track if needed.

A fellow swimmer referred me to Katie. I hadn’t seen my swimmer friend for a couple months. When I returned to the pool she not only moved up to a faster swim lane but she was noticeably more lean and fit. I asked her how she did it and she told me about Katie. I signed up that day and for the past 3 months, I have not been disappointed.
I quickly learned from Day 1 that Katie does not employ a “one size fits all” approach to nutrition. She spent the first couple of days understanding my current diet and workout regime. Only after getting to know me did she begin to tailor a nutrition plan just for me!  I am a 58 year old ultra marathon trail runner with over 40 years of experience in athletics and nutrition. Nutritional “experts” have helped me before but all tended to use “cookie cutter” type plans that did not allow for my specific tastes or athletic needs. Katie’s plan is 100% all about me … my likes, dislikes, my training as it differs day-to-day, times when I need fuel and times I don’t. I get a detailed menu for every day of the week that includes menus, recipes, and a shopping list. The recipes can be as complicated or easy as YOU want. I regularly text Katie with questions—her response is ALWAYS quick and to the point. And I get a weekly one-on-one phone consultation with her on a variety of topics. She has already revamped my fueling during training and competitions (something I thought I already knew everything about), making a huge difference in my ability to go longer without any sinking spells.

My complexion immediately took on a glow as the plan included more good fat (avocados and nuts) then I had ever eaten before. I’ve become leaner with the loss 10 pounds. My training and racing are stronger than ever. And a huge unexpected plus is I’m OFF diet drinks and artificial sweeteners…something I’ve battled for over 40 years. Katie’s explanation of why it must be done made so much sense to me…finally!
I highly recommend using Katie and her staff at OWN Nutrition for any number of reasons … weight loss, performance, or just to start eating a super healthy diet created just for you!

I have done running and triathlon events for over 10 years.  I have also experimented with many different diets/eating plans for about the amount of time.  My training partner started working with Katie about 6 months ago and up until then we were pretty even in speed and effort.  I noticed that she began to get faster and stronger and I so started asking questions.  She told me about Katie.  I immediately called Katie and expressed interest in working with her.  We visited about my goals and I began a one month eating plan.  She asked me my likes and dislikes, what my family was like and we worked together to see what would best fit into my life.  At this time I was starting my training for an Ironman event.  I wanted my body to work as efficiently as possible knowing the stress I would putting it under with all the workouts.  I starting feeling and seeing results within about 5 days…And I felt so good it made it easy to continue.  I love working with Katie and I feel great!  My body is holding up, my energy levels are good, and I feel awesome!  I love that I can still eat carbs, fats, and even a treat here and there.  Thank you Katie!

I started working with Katie as I finish out my marathon season and start my training for my first ever 70.3.  I needed some accountability and guidance in terms of nutrition, especially as I enter the world of triathlon.  In the short time I've worked with Katie I have seen amazing progress and improvement.  I have seen my physical performance improve as Katie has helped me dial in to the right nutrition for me.  I've lost pounds and inches that I had previously spent months and months to lose by myself.  I'm excited to get my meal plan every week to see what amazing recipes she puts together for me.  And, I don't feel like I'm restricted because everything has been so great - I can see this as a lifestyle change, not a diet.  I'm looking forward to working with Katie more as I transition into full triathlon training.

Jayme H, Little Rock, AR, November 2018
I began working with Katie four months ago leading up to my goal race this season, my fourth 70.3 triathlon.  From day one, I was impressed with Katie's promptness, thoroughness and patience with answering my questions.  We spent the first few weeks fine-tuning the plan, and once we found the sweet spot that worked for me individually, I found the plan extremely easy to follow and looked forward to receiving them each week.  The recipes were easy and delicious (even my husband approved!) and Katie always took my taste preferences into account.  An unexpected bonus was the significant time savings working with Katie provided -- less daily meal prep, making snacks in bulk, only one trip to the grocery each week, etc.
While losing weight & body fat to finally achieve my goal race weight (after years of trying) was certainly nice, I never anticipated how many other ways working with Katie would positively affect my training and performance.  I slept more soundly, recovered from hard workouts more quickly, and despite a large training load never felt the dreaded afternoon bonk.  I've received so many compliments about how "fit, strong and healthy" I look, but most importantly I feel fit, strong and healthy.  For the first time, I understand what it means to have nutrition work to enhance my performance -- as evident by my first overall podium finish and a 22 minute PR at my goal race this past weekend.  While my season is winding down this year, I can absolutely say I look forward to working with Katie again in the future and highly recommend OWN Nutrition!

Katie has been phenomenal in ever way to work with. She is so professional, knowledgeable and practical! She customizes my plans exactly to what my body needs and how I am feeling. I have been in competitive sports for a few years but always felt like the "nutrition" aspect of it was missing. I am learning so much since working with her and dialling in exactly what my body needs to perform at my greatest potential. It is very clear that Katie is very passionate about what she does and I feel she really does go above and beyond with her clients. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking to improve the way they feel, look and wanting to optimize their bodies performance.

I heard about OWN Nutrition from Chris McDonald and the Big Sexy Racing team. After a call with Katie, she got me hooked up with dietician Maggie Chamberlain. Working with Maggie has been great. I love having the whole week of meals planned out for me to support my training load.
My last month of big training leading up to Ironman New Zealand I've really nailed; thanks to properly fueling with Maggie's plan. I ended up the fittest I've been in the last two years! My nutrition for my long rides was dialed in and definitely help me on race day.
Having my whole week planned out really helped with meal prep for the week. I was able to appropriately budget time to properly prepare for the week and it definitely set me up for success. I also wasn't tempted to unnecessarily snack on the free snacks at work since my meals and snacks left me feeling full!
Added bonus, the recipes are so tasty! And I'm never bored with what I eat. My boyfriend has given me tons of compliments on what I've cooked when he's joined me for meals.

While weight loss was a goal of mine (which we did trim a safe amount heading into race day), I was most amazed with the changes I felt in body composition. I definitely feel stronger and look stronger! After a rough, windy day in New Zealand, I ended up on the podium in my age group. Couldn't be happier. Thanks Maggie and Own Nutrition for the support needed to nail my race!

“Katie’s personalized nutritional program is easy and the recipes are delicious!  I look forward to seeing what the diet is for each coming week.  After three months on the program I have lost 10 pounds, feel wonderful and my exercise is better and more efficient.  I find that the program is a simple way to make lifestyle changes that have lasting results and am glad that I have finally found something that make sense and works for me”.

Jane I, Vail Mountain Club Director, June 2015
I was referred to OWN-Nutrition and Katie Rhodes by a friend of mine.  She was in the midst of experiencing great success in terms of weight loss, performance and all around energy level just a few short months after beginning a program with OWN-Nutrition.  The transformation in my friend was very noticeable which sparked a conversation.   I was able to see with my own two eyes the results that a plan with OWN-Nutrition and Katie had on my friend’s appearance.  But in addition, my friend’s enthusiastic feedback about the company and Katie contributed greatly to my decision to give them a try.
What I absolutely love about OWN-Nutrition is that it isn’t a one size fits all type of nutrition plan.  It is customized to a person’s unique profile taking into consideration gender, age, weight, body type, and performance goals.  My friend and I are very different but have both had great success with OWN-Nutrition.  My friend is in her 20s, at least 5’9’’ tall, and is a triathlete training for an Ironman.  I, on the other hand, am a 46 year old 5’3’’ marathoner with a son almost as old as my friend.  As if that isn’t enough of a contrast, I was also recovering from my third hip surgery and had a goal to try and qualify for the Boston Marathon for a 5th consecutive year.  As I began to resume my training post surgery and rehab, I was finding it very difficult to shed a few pounds and regain the level of fitness I was accustomed to.  I never had this problem in the past so I was very concerned I reached an age at which my body was going through mid-life changes.  This scared me as I began to think I would no longer be able to lose weight as easily or perform as well as I once had.
This is where Katie and OWN-Nutrition stepped in.  I started a nutrition plan the end of June 2016. In just two and half months, I not only shed those stubborn pounds and qualified for Boston but I ran almost 25 minutes faster than my qualifying time!  In fact I ran faster than the qualifying time needed for a female that is between the ages of 18 and 34!!  I can’t be more thrilled and I credit OWN-Nutrition and Katie Rhodes for a lot of my success.
In addition to the customized meal plan, I find it so helpful to have a grocery list already prepared.  I am able to print it out, check off what I already have in my pantry, and run to the store to buy the rest.  I am never hungry and the meals are absolutely delicious!  Katie works with me on a weekly basis tracking my workouts, noting my food preferences and tweaking my plan to ensure I am able to perform at my best.
I can’t say enough great things about OWN-Nutrition and Katie.  I recommend OWN-Nutrition to anyone trying to transition to a healthier lifestyle and shed some weight.  But more specifically, if you are an athlete trying to maximize your performance, you don’t know what you are missing until you give OWN-Nutrition a try!!”

I began working with Katie 5 weeks ago and the changes I have felt have been exactly what I was hoping for. Katie has been wonderful working with and customizing my meal plan to my work schedule and exercise schedule. I am on the road a lot for work and she has even gone the distance of helping me make meal choices for restaurants that are in the area I will be in. I have a sweet tooth and she has worked in enough "treats" to keep that sweet tooth satisfied and also minimize it so I don't always have those cravings. She is prompt with getting my meal plan to me on a weekly basis as well as following up with a weekly phone call to check in. I have always been active and "exercised" but now, at the age of 54, I feel like I am finally getting in to the best shape of my life. Thanks to Katie for helping me get there.
